The Tokyo Regional Taxation Bureau has accused the former head of a major Japanese legal preparatory school of tax evasion amounting to approximately 68 million yen.
The suspect, identified as Hajime Nishi, the former representative director of Hōgakukan, which operates the renowned Ito Juku, allegedly failed to declare his income from stock transfers and salary earnings.
According to sources, in 2021, Nishi received a salary of approximately 116 million yen and made around 420 million yen from the sale of company shares, accumulating a total income of about 573 million yen.

However, he allegedly failed to file his tax returns and pay the corresponding income tax.
Investigators believe that part of the undisclosed funds was used to repay loans taken from Hōgakukan and acquire shares in a publicly listed company.
The Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office is currently reviewing the case.
